Anton “Tony” Beckrich, of Mora, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. He was 78 years old.
Tony was born on November 15, 1944 in Shakopee, Minnesota to parents George W. and Lucille (Siebenaler) Beckrich. He grew up on the family farm and attended school through the eighth grade. As a teenager, Tony worked for Matt Schmidt, who taught him about auto mechanics and helped shape him into the man he was. He worked for Walts Transmission where he got certified as a mechanic.
In December of 1967, Tony entered the US Army, where he served as a telecommunications operator during Vietnam. He was discharged in December of 1969.
In 1972, Tony was united in marriage to Joan Marie Otten. Tony and Joan lived in Shakopee for one year but spent the remainder of their marriage at their current address in rural Mora where they raised their 4 children. Tony worked as a janitor for the Mora Schools for more than 30 years before retiring. His true passion was spending his nights and weekends working in his mechanic’s shop at home.
Tony had many hobbies, but his favorites were traveling, watching old country music shows, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan, siblings, Cathy (Don) Conyers, Beverly (Jim) Meyers, Rosemary (Vernon) Schmidt, Edna (Jerry) Waalen, and Theresa (Jerry) Yetzer.
Tony is survived by his sons, Donald (Ruth) Beckrich of Riverton, Ted (Sarah) Beckrich of Grasston, Charles (Rebecca) Beckrich of Pillager, and daughter Kim Jabe (Stacey) of Cambridge; grandchildren, Christopher (Kala) Beckrich and Julia (Carlos) Gonzalez, Emily Anderson, Brandi Anseeuw (Gid), Derek Starry, Kenzie, Jacob, and Bella Beckrich, Zach, Nick and Elizabeth Jabe, Lee, and Arielle Beckrich, Kolton Johnson, Jaszmyn Sieverson, Mckayla Smith, Kaleigh McCoy, Nathan Burdick, and Trevor Rettmann; great-grandchildren, Cole, Courtney, Calvin, and Cora Beckrich, Joshua and Alexandra Gonzalez, and Rayne Anseeuw; siblings, Darlene Schmidt, George (Janet) Beckrich, Rita Kenow, Robert Memmer, Allen (Jacki) Beckrich, and Agnes (Pete) Braverman; all of the extended Otten family; as well as many other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 20, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mora.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Hamilton Funeral Homes- Akkerman Chapel in Mora
Visitation will be held again 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Military Honors will be provided by the Mora American Legion Post 201.
Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mora.
