AUDREY MATTSON Obituary

Audrey Ann Mattson, of Gilman, WI, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.  She was 81 years old.

Audrey was born on September 12, 1941, to parents Floyd and Hazel Swanson in Grass Lake Township, Kanabec County.  Audrey was born and lived on the family farm, with her brothers Ellsworth and Warren, and her sister Joy.  She attended the Seward County School and Braham High School where she graduated in 1959. On September 26, 1959, Audrey was united in marriage to Ronald Mattson at the Hope Lutheran Church in Grasston.  Together they lived on the family farm and raised their two children.  Audrey worked at several factory jobs including the Egg Plant, Amoco, Premier and Dahlmans in Braham.

Audrey’s greatest passion was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  While her husband Ron was alive, they routinely took them camping and fishing for fun-filled weekends, where she was told “Gramma, you’re old but you’re strong” when she was building the campfire. Her greatest memories were those camping trips and attending her grandchildren’s marching band, softball and soccer games and dance recitals. She also loved her nickname “Shorty” that her grandchildren gave her when they quickly grew taller than her 5’ 2” height.  Her second greatest passion was cheering for the Minnesota Vikings.  She proudly wore the purple and gold, especially when she moved to “Packer” territory.  She would faithfully watch the games, and more than once, threw her foam Vikings brick at the tv.  Audrey spent many hours on her crossword puzzle and word find books, which helped her to dominate Karen in their many games of Scrabble. Yahtzee was a favorite, too, allowing Karen to win, sometimes.  Audrey was a charter member of the Women of The Moose at the Braham Moose Lodge, from 1980 to 2010. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.

Audrey is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ronald; sister Joy Korpi (Don); sister-in-law Jane Swanson; and great-grandson Eric Fiedler.

She is survived by her daughter Karen (Jeff) Fiedler of Gilman, WI; her son Kevin (Teresa) Mattson of Cedar; grandchildren Shannon (Nikki) Fiedler, Brent (Tara) Fiedler, Suzanne (Rob) Lueck, Emily Mattson and Molly (Zach) Williams; great grandchildren Miles, Ian, Hunter, Aidan and Parker Fiedler, Tucker and Adilyn Lueck; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
