Barbara Joan Tvedt, of Ogilvie, formerly of Crystal, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. She was 90 years old.
Barbara was born on March 18, 1934, to parents John and Lois (Ward) Lamp on the family farm in rural Kanabec County, Minnesota. As a child, she attended country school and later Ogilvie High School, graduating in 1952 in the top 3 of her class. Barbara then attended St. Cloud Teachers’ College where she received her teaching degree. She began her career teaching elementary school in Bloomington for a few years before transitioning to the Robbinsdale School district. She taught at both Noble and Northport schools over the years, working primarily with elementary children with learning disabilities in her later career. She retired in 1993.
She was united in marriage to Stanley Harris Tvedt Jr. on July 24, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Ogilvie. They made their home in Crystal and were blessed with 4 children. In 2014, they moved to the Tvedt farm in rural Ogilvie, where they enjoyed the quiet country life.
Barbara was very creative and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She created beautiful quilts for each of her grandchildren. She was an avid reader. She and Stanley enjoyed several trips together including Hawaii for their 25th anniversary. As an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Crystal, Barbara was involved in the women’s circle, quilting group, as well as teaching Sunday school and sewing skills to a group from Kenya. She also enjoyed many blessings being a part of the Lewis Lake Covenant church family in the last ten years. Most of all, Barbara loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren filled her heart with such joy. She will be dearly missed.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Joyce Tvedt; brothers Myron and John Phillip Lamp.
She is survived by her husband Stanley “Sonny” Jr; children, Joan (Tom) Burquest, Douglas (Tammy) Tvedt, and Donald Tvedt (Mandy Wagner); 8 grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Krueger, Matthew Burquest, Kathryn (Hunter) McDaniel, Abigail Burquest, Jonathan Tvedt, Ryan Tvedt, Alexander Tvedt, and Aleah Tvedt; 6 great grandchildren, Sam, Joanna, Eliza, Ben, Evie, and Natalee; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
