Bernice Stromberg, of Mora, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the St. Clare Living Community in Mora. She was 104 years old.
Bernice was born on January 6, 1920, in Coin, Minnesota to parents Ole and Esther (Monson) Telstad. She grew up on the family farm and attended the Coin Country School. Her first job was working as a nanny for a local family.
On October 21, 1939, Bernice was united in marriage to Harry M. Stromberg. They lived on Harry’s family farm south of Fish Lake where they were blessed with 2 children. In 1952, they purchased a farm in Comfort Township. In 1961, they built one of the first milking parlors in the state of Minnesota, with Bernice mixing all the cement for the project. They continued to dairy farm until their son Donavon gradually took over. Bernice always took great pride in keeping the lawn mowed each week, even at 99 years old.
Bernice and Harry loved to dance and spent most Saturday nights out dancing. They were often joined by their dancing friends Gene and Lil Olson. Bernice has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mora since 1968 and was part of the ladies’ circle for many years. She was a wonderful baker, especially her homemade chocolate cakes, and loved to host family holidays and events. She loved to quilt and made over a 100 throughout the years, with a large quantity going to the Veterans Home near St. Cloud. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry; daughter Harriet (Steve) Hendershot; 3 brothers, Olaf (Elsie), Leonard (Myrtle), and Orville Telstad.
She is survived by her son Donavon (Janeva); grandchildren, Carla (Larry) Simonson, Darin Hendershot, Paula (Mike) Rauchwarter, Meredith Stromberg, and Kate (Jay) Szostek; many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the First Presbyterian church in Mora with the Rev. Dr. Gus Schill officiating.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
A luncheon will follow the graveside service at church.
