Betty Irene (Leaf) Engberg, of Braham, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Cambridge Medical Center. She was 92 years old.
Betty was born on February 24, 1931 in Grandy, Minnesota to parents John and Hulda (Smith) Leaf. She grew up in Grandy, attending country school. Betty was united in marriage to Harold L. Engberg and they were blessed with 5 children.
Betty was a hard worker throughout her life. She worked numerous jobs in food service, various assembly jobs, and as a caterer. She was a wonderful cook and baker, especially her fresh homemade bread and pies. Big Sunday dinners were the highlight of the week. Mornings would always start with a cup of coffee and a rusk.
Betty and Harold built a cabin in the woods north of Nashwauk that became the favorite family gathering spot over the years. Betty loved to watch and feed the deer and hummingbirds. She enjoyed doing word searches, bowling, and watching wheel of fortune. Most of all she loved her large family and spending time together. She will be dearly missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, brother Dennis Leaf, brother-in-law Rene Southerland, and sister-in-law Sharon Leaf.
Betty is survived by her children, Bob (Debbie), Kim (Gerry), Cindy (Dan) Blatz, Jackie (Rob) Ford, and Harold "Jr" (Tina); grandchildren, Tammi (Brant), Troy (Shauna), Angie (Tony), Patrick (Abby), Travis (Liz), Tyler, Alisha (Austin), Calvin, and Garrett; great grandchildren, Delaney, Avery, Nicholas, Alexis, Waylon, Anna, and Lainee; siblings, Donald (Verna) Leaf, Darrell Leaf, Marlys "Mickey" Southerland, LaVerne (Dennis "Butch") Golden, Dianne "DeeDee" (Mike) Lund, and Duane (Dawn) Leaf; sister-in-law Carol Leaf; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Calvary Lutheran Church at Rush Point with Pastor Vicki VanderVegt officiating.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Rice Lake Cemetery in Braham.
