CAIUS ROODELL

June 30, 2005 ~ June 23, 2023 (age 17) 17 Years Old

Obituary

Caius Zachary Roodell, of Ogilvie, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 23, 2023 at his home.  He was 17 years old.

Caius was born on June 30, 2005 in Mora, Minnesota to parents Beau and Jessica (Sturgill) Roodell.  He grew up in rural Kanabec County, spitting distance from Ann Lake, home of very few fish.  He graduated from high school and from Pine Technical College in 2023.  Welding was Caius’ passion from his first day in their excellent welding program.  There, he thrived in both the learning, and the valued relationships built with his favorite instructor and fellow classmates.

His love for art was evident throughout his life in drawing, woodworking (Grandpa Gordy!!!), woodburning, painting, 3D printing, laser engraving, and finally welding projects.  His artistic endeavors also extended to the piano, where he enjoyed years of lessons with the best piano teacher in the world, which prepared him to play with the church worship team as their “star" pianist.

Growing up, “Caius the Prankster” could usually be found travelling the country in one of many family road trips, where he was able to visit all of the lower 48 states.  Throughout his life, he had many outdoor adventures with friends and family, including snowboarding, camping trips at an early age with immediate family and grandparents (Shell Lake!!!), many “guys trips” camping and fishing with his brothers and dad, and most recently, many rockin’ fishing/camping trips with his buds and his dog Billy.  Furthermore, “Caius the Deerslayer” enjoyed many successful hunting seasons, outhunting both his father and cousin (Yo Eli!!!).

“Caius the Martial Artist” spent years in the taekwondo gym with brothers, cousins, and friends flying and bouncing off the walls, attaining the rank of Black Belt at the age of 16 years.  Also, it goes without saying that most students preferred the workouts where Caius was class instructor!!!  Caius also found a special love of boxing in the last few years.  He started training at a gym in the twin cities metro with his brother and father, but found a home at Believers’ Boxing Gym in Forest Lake, MN, where he and his dad would continually try to outclass each other.  He cherished the relationships that he developed in the gym.

Caius greatly treasured his plans for the future with his special love, Evelyn.  Spending time with her was a light in his life. They enjoyed 2 proms, fishing and boating adventures, dog walking, and just plain hangin’ out.

Caius will be joyfully remembered for his compassionate heart, awesome wit, unmatched AWANA game leader skills, strong faith in God, and deep love and empathy for others.

Preceded in death by great grandfather Robert Roodell; grandfather Gordy Pratt; uncle Zachary Roodell.

Caius is survived by his parents Beau and Jessica Roodell; brothers, Wyatt (Kiera) and Vaughn; grandparents, Vicki Pratt, Duane (Susan) Roodell, Betty (George) Will and Doug (Julie) Sturgill; aunts and uncles, Jami (Chris) Charlson, Jeremy (Tanya) Sturgill, Jared (Cari) Sturgill, Juletta (Matt) Smith, Desi (Trumaine) Hughes, and Walter (Caitlyn) Steiner; great grandmother Lola Roodell; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39
