Carl David Long, age 71, of Ogilvie, MN, went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2026, after a long battle with Melanoma Cancer.
Born and raised in Roaring Spring, PA, Carl attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania to study Art Education. It was there that he met his wife, Kerry Long; they were married for nearly 50 years. Soon after graduation they moved to Minnesota to start their life together.
Carl spent his career as an art teacher at Ogilvie High School, where he will be remembered for his role as a beloved teacher, yearbook advisor and his work on the elaborate theater sets. He was also an active leader in Scouting, showing a lifelong commitment to the program and his community. Even in retirement, he remained a fixture in the local arts community through his work with the Kanabec County Arts Association, the East Central Regional Arts Council, and the Paradise Movie Theater. He was also an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church designing the many stained glass windows, singing in the Senior Choir, and playing in the bell choir.
Carl applied his eye for art and design to his community, creating flower arrangements and store displays for family, friends, and local businesses. An admirer of architecture, history, and National Parks, he enjoyed traveling with family and friends around the world, always insisting that we "brake for lighthouses and Wright houses."
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, D. Adam and Anna Ferne (Rhodes) Long, and his brother, Howard Long.
He is survived by his wife, Kerry Long; his children, Shannon Long of Mora, Jocelyn Long of Coatesville, PA, and Adam (Janelle) Long of Duluth; grandchildren, Cooper, Sawyer, and Elle. He is also survived by his brother Roger and sisters Marcia, Julie, and Anita, as well as many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
He will be remembered for his commitment to his family, his art, and his community.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora.
Memorial Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service.
Memorials are preferred to: The Paradise Theater, Kanabec County Kick Cancer to the Curb or the Kanabec County Art Association
