CHARLES HOHN Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Elmer Hohn, formerly of Mora, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at St. Odilia’s Hospice in Shoreview, MN. He was 88 years old.

Chuck was born on January 9, 1937, in a farmhouse near the South Dakota border to Arnold and Alice Hohn. When he was two years old, his family moved to a farm near Mora, Minnesota, where Chuck was raised. He attended country school, walking 2.5 miles each way every day. Chuck graduated from Mora High School in 1955 as Salutatorian. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating cum laude in 1959.

Following college, Chuck answered the call to serve his country, proudly serving in the United States Army for three years. He was stationed in Verona, Italy, where he worked in administrative roles at the Italian-American NATO headquarters. During this time, he purchased a Volkswagen Beetle and traveled extensively throughout Europe—an adventure he spoke of frequently with fondness. After completing his military service, Chuck returned home and, in 1963, began a 35-year career with the State of Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development, serving as a supervisor for the East Central Minnesota region until his retirement in 1998.

While Chuck was proud of his military service and professional career, his greatest joy was his family. He met his wife, Eunice, while in college, and after eight years of courtship they were married on April 25, 1964, at First Baptist Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. Chuck and Eunice shared 44 years of marriage, building a loving home in Mora, where they raised their family and became deeply woven into the fabric of the community. Chuck gave generously of his time and talents through church involvement and local activities, always happy to serve behind the scenes wherever needed.

Chuck and Eunice endured the loss of two premature infants, Diane and Steven, before welcoming twins, Karen and David. Chuck was a devoted, hands-on father who never missed a baseball game, tennis match, or musical performance. He and Eunice loved to travel and together visited 49 of the 50 states. Chuck was also a deeply loving and devoted husband, faithfully caring for Eunice throughout her long battle with Parkinson’s disease until her passing in 2008.

In 2010, Chuck was blessed with a joyful second chapter when he married Sharon Carlson. They shared 15 wonderful years together, making their home in Cambridge, Minnesota. Their life together was filled with travel, faith, and companionship, including the long-awaited trip to Hawaii that completed visits to all 50 states. Their shared faith was central to their marriage, and Chuck remained an active and dedicated member of the churches he attended in both Mora and Cambridge.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Alice Hohn; his stepmother Ruth Hohn; his brothers, Virgil (Pat) Hohn and Stanley Hohn; his children, Diane Hohn and Steven Hohn; and his beloved wife, Eunice Hohn.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hohn; his children, Karen (Cedric) Long and David (Shana) Hohn; his grandchildren, Jakob (Marissa) Hohn, Jadon (Sophia) Hohn, Lindsey Long, and Lucas Long; his siblings Wesley (Sharon) Hohn, Linda (LeRoy) Templin, Sandra Hohn, Rhonda Morgan, Arnold (Kristy) Hohn Jr., and Brenda (Jesus) Monge; his sister-in-law Geraldine Hohn; along with many stepchildren, step-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
