DANIEL SEELEN Obituary

Daniel “Dan, Danny” Seelen, age 73, formally of Mora passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at his home.

Born on January 8, 1950, in Little Falls, Minnesota the youngest of four siblings to parents Leonard Sr. and Delores (Ruge) Seelen.  He attended school in Little Falls while growing up.  After high school he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Germany during Vietnam. He often said this was one of the best decisions he ever made as the VA was always there for him in life afterward.  He was so proud to be a Veteran.

A few years after returning home, he met who he always referred to as the love of his life, Debbie (Snabb) and they later married in 1976. Together they had one child, Jami.  Debbie passed away in 1987 and it was around this time Dan started his life in Mora.  He met Jeanie (Douglas) in those years and together they raised Jami and had a son, Lenny.

Dan worked different jobs in life after attending welding school and becoming a welder, Minneapolis taxi driver, owning a firewood business and his last job before retirement being a waiter at the Grand Casino buffet where he worked for many years as this seemed to be the right niche for Dan and his gift of gab.

Dan loved spending time outdoors with a fishing pole in his hand and deer hunting.  He said this is where he felt the closest to God, the outdoors were his church and his boat, his church pew.  He loved to watch football, especially his Vikings as he shared this love with his son Lenny and his best pal Ron.  He was known for his pool playing skills throughout life and was quite confident with a pool stick in his hand-as he should be because not a lot of people could beat him.  He was always quick with numbers and math and his most beloved past time was playing anyone in a game of cribbage.  He taught many how to love the game as well.  Even though Dan lived a tough life it made him most happy if he was able to help, ease burden, or just make things better in whatever way possible for someone needing this.  Danny always seemed to have a smile on his face and a joke ready or something to say to anyone nearby.  Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He will certainly be missed.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, wife Debbie, sister Donna (Richard) Brown.

He is survived by his daughter Jami (Noah) Swirtz; son Leonard Seelen (Brianna Buskirk); grandchildren, Ethan (Hannah) Swirtz, Jacob Swirtz, and Alayna Swirtz; great granddaughter Eleanor Swirtz; sister Virginia (Gary) Kittleson; brother Leonard Seelen Jr.; past significant other Jeanie (Richard) Hines; best friend Ron (Katherine) Eggen; many beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
