Donald “Donnie” Blum, of Mora, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 72 years old.
Donnie was born on November 13, 1953, in Mora, Minnesota to parents David and Marlys (Johnson) Blum.
Donnie spent his younger years growing up in rural Hinckley and in the Ogilvie area. After the birth of his daughter, Jamie, he and his parents went on many family trips to different states.
At a young age, he started in the gravel business with his Dad and had a lifelong career as both a heavy equipment operator in the 49ers Union and a truck driver. In the last 30 years, he was so happy and fortunate to be able to work in the family gravel business with his Dad, Jamie and her husband, and both grandsons.
He loved spending time with all his friends and always had a special place in his heart for his dogs. They meant the world to him. He enjoyed keeping his yard nice and always had a John Deere in the shed. In recent years, he enjoyed eating out with his Dad and other family at his favorite restaurants. His legacy will always live on through the many lives he touched.
Donnie was preceded in death by his mother Marlys and brother David.
He is survived by his father David Blum; wife Denise “DeeDee”; daughter Jamie (Shannon) Okroi; grandsons Ryan and Brandon; DeeDee’s children, Sara (Zac) Fitzsimmons, Dustin (Amber) Norby, and Jenna (Zach) Ludowese; grandchildren, Gavin, Aubri, Micah, Hailey, and Harper; sister-in-law, Betty “Louie” Blum; nephew Christopher and niece Kelsey; many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Donnie’s life will be held from Noon - 4pm on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at the home of Jamie & Shannon.
