Dorothy Dell Carroll, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the Elim Home in Milaca, MN. She was 97 years old.
Dorothy was born on October 15, 1925 on the family farm in rural Ogilvie to parents Samuel and Mildred (Mowry) Ziegler. The youngest of six children, she attended District 38 Hancock Denzer country school and then Ogilvie High School, graduating in 1943. She moved to Minneapolis, where she worked at Sears and White Way Laundry for the next two years.
On August 9, 1945 Dorothy was united in marriage to Frank James Carroll while he was on leave from the Navy. When he returned home, they purchased a dairy farm near Ogilvie and started their family that was complete with 5 children. Dorothy worked for a few years at Fingerhut but spent most of her career as a nurse at the Mora Clinic.
Dorothy enjoyed time outdoors working in the yard and tending her flower and vegetable gardens. She canned pickles and made jams and jellies from her harvests. She loved to bake goodies for family, co-workers, and friends. She was a talented seamstress, making clothing for her kids and quilts in her later years. A member of the Ogilvie Methodist church, Dorothy served with the women’s circle for many years. She loved camping and fishing trips throughout the years and enjoyed traveling to Canada, Alaska, and Florida.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Frank, siblings, Lois, Bernice, Marion, Richard, and Harriett.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Nancy (David) Heins, Sandra (David) Halvorson, Richard (Kathy), Ronnie, and James (Dawn); 21 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; and 19 great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Ogilvie United Methodist Church with Pastor Dean Roush officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the Hamilton Funeral Homes - Akkerman Chapel in Mora and again 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie.
