Dorothy Ford passed away on November 24, 2021 at Covenant Living in Golden Valley, Minnesota. She was 101 years old.
Dorothy was born on August 24, 1920, at home in Maple Ridge Township, Minnesota to parents William and Grace (Else) Ford. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Braham High School at 16 years old. She then attended the Normal School in Mora for a year to qualify her as a teacher. She began her career in a one room schoolhouse in Isanti County. She taught for six years before seeing an advertisement for teachers in Belgian, Congo. She went on to get more education at North Park College and the University of Minnesota before accepting a call teaching in Karawa, Congo in 1945. Two years later, she established the Ubangi Academy for children of Covenant and Free Church missionaries and taught there for 18 years.
Dorothy returned to the United States in 1964. She met Bob, and they were united in marriage in 1965, making their home in Arkansas. During her years in Arkansas, she continued her love for education and caring for students as she hosted Brazilian high school exchange students in her home. She traveled extensively during these years including Australia, South America, Europe, and China. Her interests and talents included gardening, oil painting, stained glass work, and reading. She created and donated two stained glass windows for her church in Arkansas and she volunteered her services to the Covenant Living Library for many years. Dorothy joined the Covenant Living community on December 1, 1990, where she continued to resident until her passing.
