DUANE KRAUSE

Duane Francis Krause, formerly of Brook Park, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Elderwood of Hinckley.  He was 87 years old. 

Duane was born on June 4, 1935 in Lake City, Minnesota to parents Sylvester and Helen (Herbst) Krause.  He grew up in Minneapolis, but spent most summers on the family farm in Lake City.  He attended South High School in Minneapolis, graduating in 1953. Duane met his lifelong love; Shirley Christine Hoover while in High School and they married on January 23, 1954.  They resided in the Twin Cities area until 2001, when they retired to Brook Park, MN.  Duane spent his career as a salesman and real estate agent.  

Duane loved the outdoors; hunting and fishing, teaching gun safety and archery, and as a Pioneer Boy’s leader for many years.  In his younger years, Duane and the family built a cabin on Big Bass Lake near Outing, MN and spent over 40 years of summers together there. He loved to putz around with different projects around the house and was famous for his “inventions” and “short-cuts”. He enjoyed painting and drawing, and was part of the Kanabec County Arts Association. Duane’s strong faith followed him to the different church communities he attended throughout his life as well as in Bible Studies and Men’s Fellowship groups, and through prison ministry outreach programs.  Most of all, Duane loved his family.  He had a special and unique bond with each of his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.  He will be deeply missed.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, son Patrick, and brother David.

Duane is survived by his daughters, Peggy Sundet, Linda Russell, Michelle Krause; daughter-in-law Diane Krause; 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.  

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Hamilton Funeral Homes - Akkerman Chapel in Mora with a luncheon to follow at the Brook Park Community Center.  A Memorial Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
