EDDIE GUSK Obituary

Eddie Raymond Gusk, age 83, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN. Born on January 14, 1941, in Minneapolis, Eddie lived most of his life in the "Grandy Pines" and will always be a part of the beautiful area he called home.

Eddie was a humble man, known for his gentle soul and witty sense of humor. He cherished his family deeply, always making time for them. Their family door was always open offering a cup of coffee or k’nueper depending on the hour.   Eddie and MaryLou's home was a welcoming place where friends were received with warmth and where conversations lingered.

As a child of 15 months, Eddie sustained serious injuries resulting from an accident leaving him with little use of his left arm.  He never let his handicap hold him back and few people knew he had any disability.  For 39 years he traveled up and down highway 65 to the metro working in plumbing & heating as a purchasing agent. His reliability was his strength and there was no such thing as a “snow day” to Eddie.

Eddie enjoyed logging their acreage in the Grandy Pines with his son Scott.  Together, they harvested over 135 semi truckloads of pine logs throughout the years.  In 2006, Eddie and Scott were honored as Tree Farmers of the Year by the State of Minnesota and never before had a father and son team received the honor.  Many family members’ homes are filled with wood materials from their labor of love. Kevin, Scott and their dad moved dozens of trees from the Grandy Pines and planted some 500 seedlings onto Kevin’s first family property in Oak Grove.

Eddie was always available to his boys when they would “tinker” with their demolition derby cars.  Many cherished memories were made camping and traveling across the U.S.  as a young family.  Their experiences evolved through every kind of camper from a pick-up topper, foldout style, tents, travel trailers and finally a motor home.  Eddie enjoyed watching YouTube videos of his favorite old country music stars, walks with his pup Lily and always kept up on the news despite his diminishing vision in his later years.  When he could no longer read newsprint, he switched to news broadcasts.  He knew a little bit about everything!

Eddie's agreeable, gentle presence and authentic smile will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He leaves a legacy of kindness and servanthood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie D. and Elsie; siblings Michael Gusk, Barry (Marge) Gusk, Collette (Eddie) Stavem, Colleen (Dwight) Hanson; and brothers-in-law, Larry Brisbin and Dwaine Larson.

Eddie leaves behind a loving family: his wife of 63 years, MaryLou; sons, Kevin (Karen) Gusk and Scott (Deanna) Gusk; grandchildren, Samantha Barry, Nicole (Colton) Hays, Abby (Peter) Crowley, Taylor Glotzbach, and Samuel Gusk; great-grandchildren, Stacie and Paisley; and his brother, David (Sharon) Gusk. He is also survived by his sisters, Judy Maynard and Janet Brisbin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lin Gusk, Karen (Pat) Galvin and Gerald (Julie) Larson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
