Eileen Marie Vander Vegt, of Ogilvie, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the family cabin near Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She was 91 years old.
Eileen was born on February 24, 1934, in Sandborn, Iowa to parents John and Jennie (Braband) DeVries.
Eileen was united in marriage to Frederick “Fritz” Vander Vegt at the Christian Reformed Church in Ogilvie on August 20, 1954. They were blessed with 9 children.
Eileen drove bus for many years, primarily for the DAC. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved to tend to her huge vegetable garden, canning her harvests for the winter. She could usually out fish Fritz with her old cane fishing pole. She will be dearly missed.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Jim DeMarre and Katie Vander Vegt; siblings, John, Dennis, Robert, Ron, Gladys, and Caroline.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Frederick “Fritz”; children, Judy (Kevin) Lowmaster, Gloria (Larry) Hoyles, Janyce DeMarre, Diane (Steve) Black, Mark (Mary), Ken (Tammy), Leanne (Bernie) Sytsma, Susan (Dirk) DeVries, and Jim (Angie); 20 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother Dick (Carol) DeVries; sister Phyllis Houtsma; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the Lewis Lake Covenant Church near Ogilvie.
Visitation was held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
A luncheon was held immediately follow the service at the church.
Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie.
