EUGENE PETERSON

Eugene F. Peterson passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge.  He was 92 years old.

Eugene was born on April 11, 1932, in Maple Ridge Township, Minnesota to parents Albin and Helen (Johnson) Peterson.  He grew up in Day and attended Day Country school through the 8th grade.  In 1946 the family moved to the farm on Highway 70 and Eugene attended Braham High School, graduating in 1950.  

He entered the Army in 1952, serving in Korea until his discharge in 1954.  Eugene attended the University of Minnesota on the GI Bill, receiving an associate’s degree, but returned to the family farm after his father was diagnosed with TB.

Eugene met Hazel Schoenrock while roller skating at Fish Lake.  They dated for five years before marrying on September 6, 1958, in Giese, Minnesota.  They bought the family farm, where Eugene raised dairy cows until selling the farm in 1996 and retiring.  After moving to Cambridge, Eugene worked at Fleetgo for 15 years. 

Over the years, Eugene was a proud member of the Braham Ev. Lutheran Church, Siloa Lutheran, and most recently Cambridge Lutheran.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Hazel, brother Donald (Barbara), brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph (Lillie) Schoenrock, Ernie (Leona) Schoenrock, Lucile (Clarence) Christensen, and Gladys (Ralph) Karsky; nephews Michael Peterson and Harlan Schoenrock; niece Marlene Moss.

Eugene is survived by his children, Jennifer (Tim) Bergman, Wendy (Mike) DeVault, and Holly (Shane) Ball; grandchildren, Noah Bergman, Jonah Bergman, Grace DeVault, Kate DeVault, Rachel (Calder) Glowac, and Shannon Ball; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the Cambridge Lutheran Church with Pastor Dean Oelfke officiating.

Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Military Honors will be provided by the Cambridge American Legion and VFW.

 A Luncheon will follow at the church.

Interment will be in the Siloa Lutheran Cemetery in rural Stanchfield.
