Evelyn “Evie” Walberg, formerly of Braham, passed peacefully at home with her daughter Gloria and her cat Polly by her side on January 12, 2024. She was 93 years old.
Evelyn was born March 12, 1930, in Windemere Township, Pine County, MN to Clifford & Emma (Hanson) Gray. She married Stanley Walberg on June 8, 1947, at the age of 17 and they moved to St. Paul MN while Stan was employed by the Ford plant. They moved to Braham in 1948
Evie began waitressing in 1945 at the age of 15 years old at the Park Cafe where she progress throughout the years and became one of the BEST pie bakers in the area. In 1976, She and Stan became proud owners of the Park Cafe along with the Braham Car Wash, with Evie taking charge of the Cafe and Stan in charge of the Car Wash. She loved meeting and visiting with as many of the customers as she could. She would provide food for numerous groups and clubs in the area along with hosting and feeding The Chamber of Commerce during their scheduled meetings.
Evie was a member of the St. Stephens Lutheran Church and choir where she truly enjoyed singing. She also enjoyed being on the local bowling leagues at the Braham Lanes.
Evie and Stan would spend the winters at their home they purchased in North Port, Florida from 1980 - 2000. After Stanley passed in 2001, Evie would travel to Florida and stay with her daughters June & Gloria for a portion of the winters until she moved to Florida permanently in November 2010.
Evie had stayed close to her daughter June Walberg-Cruz until June’s passing from cancer in 2016. She then moved into an over 55 Apartment complex in 2017 until she moved in with youngest daughter Gloria in 2022 until her passing.
She is preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Emma Gray; husband Stanley Walberg; son Gerald Walberg; daughter June Walberg-Cruz; brother Willis Gray; and sister Lerain Fix.
She is survived by her daughter Gloria; 3 grandchildren, Jeret (Dawn) Fredlund, Jody (Remy) Kervran, and Nicole (Rob) Lusardi; 3 great-grandchildren, Amanda Fredlund, Carrie (Thomas) Fredrickson, and Skylar Spencer; 2 brothers, Doran Gray and Robert Gray; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Boquist, Delores Johnson, and Elenor (Charles) Grell; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the St. Stephen's Lutheran church in Braham with Rev. George Sagissor III.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Royalton Memorial Cemetery near Braham.
