Gary Lee Johnson, of Mora, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at his home. He was 77 years old.
Gary was born on July 13, 1947, in Mora to Elizabeth “Beth” Johnson and Clifford Axel Johnson. He grew up in the town of Mora with his siblings Lennie and Linda. The family eventually moved out to Quamba Lake where they were raised so the kids could have more of a country life.
Gary attended Mora High School and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Arizona, Texas and eventually stationed at Fort Campbell, KY, from 1966 to 1968. He received high honors for his marksmanship skills. He was not deployed due to his rare blood type.
Gary married Jacquelyn Johnson on June 10, 1967. The couple were blessed to have two children together, Gary Lee Jr. and Michelle Ann.
After Gary’s time in the U.S. Army the couple moved back to Mora and made their home on Quamba Lake where Gary resided until his death. He spent many years of happy times fishing on Quamba Lake and hunting around the area.
Gary was self-employed doing drywall for many years and eventually opened and started Lennie’s service with his brother. He enjoyed his years of doing mechanical work with his brother and nephews until his retirement.
Gary was loved and will be missed by many. He was quick-witted, always had good advice and a fun story. Gary was exceptionally mechanically inclined. He could fix or repair most anything. He enjoyed several trips to Canada with family and friends and had many great neighbors he spent time with.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Elizabeth; nephew Jack; and other loved ones.
Gary is survived by Jacquelyn, Siren, WI; son Gary Jr. of Siren, WI; daughter Michelle (Scott) of Cambridge; granddaughter Hayle Elizabeth of Moorhead; brother Lennie (Shelly) of Mora; sister Linda (Terry) Pierson of Mora; and and many nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends.
In keeping with the simplicity of Gary’s life, a private and simple service was held at his home on Quamba Lake.
