James “Jim” Allen Hemmer, of Stanchfield, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the St. Cloud Hospital with his wife by his side.  He was 82 years old.

Jim was born on November 8, 1943, in Brookings, South Dakota to parents Earl and Marlys (Duff) Hemmer.  He enlisted in the United States Army when he was only 17, serving overseas during the Vietnam War.  He was discharged in 1963.

Jim attended Dunwoody College where he studied carpentry and design.  He spent his career as a carpenter, specializing in finishing work.

Jim was united in marriage to Lucille Weise on October 30, 1976, in South Dakota. They lived on a farm near Stanchfield, where they raised horses and enjoyed watching all the wildlife that passed through the pastures.  Jim loved the outdoors and fishing.  He took many cherished fishing trips to Canada with his sons.  He was an avid reader, especially westerns.  He was proud of his military service and volunteered with the Cambridge American Legion honor guard for a few years.  He will be remembered for his kindness and humor.  He will be dearly missed.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gene (Phyllis) Hemmer and Richard Hemmer; sister Joan Packard.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lucille “Lucy"; sons, Mark Hemmer and Lee (Angela) Hemmer; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Robert) Anderson and Carolyn Weise; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the Hamilton Funeral Homes – Rock Chapel in Braham. 

Inurnment will be at a future date in the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery at Rush Point.
