JAMES WALTON

James “Jim” C. Walton, age 65 of Mora, Minnesota, died Tuesday morning June 2, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born on July 18, 1960, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of John and Sue Walton. In his early years, Jim worked in fine dining restaurants in the Twin Cities. Later in life, Jim was a Low Voltage Journeyman Technician. He took great pride in his work and was often recognized for his meticulous attention to detail.

Jim lived a life full of adventure, defined by his strength, courage, faith, and love for his family. On his 40-acre farm in Mora, Minnesota, Jim and his wife Leslie Walton host their family for blow-out get-togethers every year on the Fourth of July — weekends filled with laughs, stories, and plenty of firework explosions. Jim loved those weekends.

Jim enjoyed hunting. He loved to shoot off his guns in his handmade firing range on his property. He loved to cruise around on his Goldwing motorcycle, with a no-sleeve shirt on and dark sunglasses, blasting all kinds of music especially classic rock and blues.

More than anything, Jim loved being around his family, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren. He spent as much time as possible with them, cherishing every one of those moments.

Through the suffering Jim endured in his life, he remained courageous and resilient, keeping his faith in Jesus Christ unbreakable even through his last days. Jim wore a silver crucifix around his neck at all times. He saw the light of Jesus in everything, both big and small — the conversations with his kids, the four-wheeler rides he would take his grandchildren on, horseback riding, the rounds of golf with his wife Leslie, the sunrise on a cold winter’s morning.

The light of Jesus beamed through him and onto those who love him and will greatly miss him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Sue Walton; his grandson Caleb Bonine; and his father-in-law Irwin Roitenberg; as well as the many animals that he loved dearly.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Leslie Roitenberg Walton; son Jaymis (Brytani) Richards of Mora and daughter Samantha (Sean) Walton of Belview; brothers, Jeff (Penny) Walton of Plymouth, Jon (Anne) Walton of Waconia, Josh (Betsy) Walton of St. Paul; grandchildren, Gunnar, Ellie, Reece, Natalie, Esmae, Isaac, Bentley, and Brooks; mother-in-law Barbara Roitenberg; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and pets.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Jim’s Life that will be held from 2:00-6:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Park Ridge Place Apartments (330 East Burnsville Pkwy - Burnsville MN 55337). 

A Private Family Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Shorewood, Minnesota.
