James “Jim” George Bassett of Pine City formerly of Mora, MN passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the Pine Haven group home in Pine City after a battle with cancer. He was 66 years old.
Jim was born on January 29, 1958, in Kanabec County to parents Don and Lorraine (Lammers) Bassett. He was the second of six children. He grew up on the family farm in Peace township and attended Warman school in his early years and then through 11th grade at Mora High School. As a young child, Jim was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran church in Kroschel.
Jim enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and deer hunting. He played a major role in the daily operations of Bassett’s Greenery. He enjoyed picking agates and using them to build bird houses. In Jim’s later years he lived in a foster home in Pine City and then a group home till his passing. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brother Steve and sister Annette Lazinski.
He is survived by his brothers, Tim Bassett, Doug (Clarise) Bassett; sister Audrey (Dale) Clementson, and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice, Dave and Michelle of Three Seasons Adult Foster Care and Pine Haven group home for the excellent care of Jim for several years.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Hamilton Funeral Homes – Akkerman Chapel in Mora with Mike Norton officiating.
Memorial Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
Inurnment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
