JOAN OSLIN Obituary

AKKERMAN INGEBRAND FUNERAL HOME – MORA

Joan Oslin, of Mora, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Welia Health in Mora.  She was 92 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the Quamba Baptist Church with Pastor Ivan Fiske officiating.

VISITATION will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

INTERMENT will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.

Joan (Ostman) Oslin, age 92, of Mora, MN passed away on May 31, 2022 with her three sons by her side.

She was born on September 9, 1929 in Whited township, north of Quamba, to Swedish immigrants, Ivar and Martha (Soderstrom) Ostman. Her older brothers Wilford and Ervin loved to pick on her but grew up to be some of her best friends. She loved playing with her Soderstrom and Ostman cousins. This love for family would be a defining trait throughout her life. Joan began her education in a one room country schoolhouse where she completed the eighth grade. She went to school in Braham for one year before graduating from Mora High School in 1947.

Joan met Harold through his cousin and originally agreed to go on a date with him because he had “a good looking car.” They were united in marriage on September 6, 1952. During their first year of marriage, they lived in and managed Edstrom Grocery Store in Quamba. Harold continued working at the lumberyard while their home in Mora was built by Joan’s brothers and crew. They would reside there for the rest of their lives. Joan worked alongside her husband as a bookkeeper at Oslin Lumber for many years, but her most important job was always being a wife, mother, and grandma. She was proud of her three boys and their families. She loved cheering on her kids and grandkids at their ballgames. She often had drop in company during the day and enjoyed having her grandkids come after school.

Joan was one of the most generous, grace filled, examples of love. You never got out of her kitchen with fewer than three sweets, her table was filled with friends and family on a daily basis, and every person who entered her door felt like they were valued. She showed that hospitality can be holy, the joy of serving others, and how to live out faith in quiet humility. The way she lived her life and loved her family will never be forgotten. Joan will be dearly missed. Thank you for your legacy and your example!

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Harold Oslin, her parents Ivar and Martha (Soderstrom) Ostman, brothers Wilford and Ervin Ostman and great grandson, Liam Christian Oslin.

She is survived by her sons Craig ( Beth), Curt (Deb) and Gary (Kim) all of Mora; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, sister-in-law JoAnn Price, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
