Joanne Mae Reese, of Farmington, New Mexico, formerly of Braham, MN, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in Phoenix, AZ. She was 86 years old.
Joanne was born on November 9, 1936, the 11th of 13 children born and raised on a farm near Braham, Minnesota to John and Myrtle (Anderson) Peterson.
Joanne met her husband Leonard Reese in 1956 at the ballpark in Braham and was later married on September 28, 1957 in Dalbo Township, Minnesota.
Leonard and Joanne moved to Farmington, New Mexico in the summer of 1960, brought to town through the purchase of Bowlero Lanes by a family member. She held various job positions through her lifetime, most notably being a pawnbroker and bookkeeper.
Joanne possessed a quiet, easy-going personality. She enjoyed watching sports, was known to be hard working, and an excellent polka dancer. She is now free to dance once again.
Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Myrlin, Dale “Red”, Duane “Duke” and 2 infants; sisters, Virginia, Janet, and Betty.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leonard; daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Edmister of Phoenix and Wendy (Joe) Rogers of Farmington; son Larry (Annette) Reese of Phoenix; grandsons, Aaron (Sarah) Edmister, Bryan Edmister, and Colton Edmister, all of Phoenix, and one great grandchild, Aston Edmister of Phoenix; siblings Myron Peterson, Franklyn Peterson, Delyte Robertson, and Ione Maxwell; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Memorial Service and Inurnment at the Siloa Lutheran Church and Cemetery is being planned for the Summer of 2023. Dates and times will be posted when they become available.
