JOHN "DAVE" MATTSON

John "Dave" Mattson, of Braham, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at The Estates at Rush City.  He was 90 years old.

Dave was born February 22, 1933 on the family farm in Braham, Minnesota to Adolph and Agnes Mattson. He attended Clint country school through 8th grade and graduated from Braham High School in 1950. After high school Dave farmed with his parents on the family farm. Dave was an avid dancer. He met his wife, Beverly, at the Ranch Dance Hall. They married May 2, 1953 and were to celebrate 70 years in May.

Dave purchased the family farm from his parents and started his own family raising 5 children. Along with dairy farming, Dave worked a full time job. He drove livestock truck, was a laborer, worked at Dahlman’s, Ready Mix and Aurelius Manufacturing in Braham until he retired in 1998.

Dave and his wife lived on the family farm until 2016 when he sold the farm to his granddaughter. It was very hard for Dave to leave the farm but knowing it would remain in the family made him very happy. Dave and Bev rented a house on the Swanson property 1 mile from the farm until moving into Elmhurst Assisted Living in 2021.

Fishing, hunting, and camping were passions for Dave. He was a member of Braham Sportsman club and Grasston Lions. He loved spending time with family and friends. At gatherings, you would find him playing horseshoes, bean bags, darts and card games. During retirement, he developed an interest in woodworking projects.

Dave was a lifetime member of Braham Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. The family would like to thank Elmhurst Commons, The Estates at Rush City, and St Croix Hospice for the wonderful care.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents John Adolph and Agnes (Swanson) Mattson and an infant brother Russell Dean Mattson.

He is survived by his wife Beverly; children, Sherri Mattson (Lynnette Sjoquist), Daryl (Shari) Mattson, Kevin (Sandy) Mattson, Lorri (Steve) Abel, and Russell (Alexis) Mattson; grandchildren, Krista, Jerah, Sarah (Dominic), Lorah (Charlie), Brittany (Michael), Nicole (Randy), and Brent (Jackie); great grandchildren, Blake, Brooke, Marshall, Brayden, Gabriella, Corbin, Layla, Jaxon, and Jaycee; many other relatives and friends.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the Braham Event Center.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held 1 hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 am.
