Larry Edwin Nelson passed away on August 27, 2022 at Welia Health in Mora at the age of 82. Larry was born April 10, 1940 at home in Shell Rock Township, Freeborn County Minn. to John and Ovedia (Westrum) Nelson. Larry was a big boy weighing in at 14 lbs at birth and grew up to manhood on the farm southeast of Albert Lea.
He graduated from Glenville high school in 1958 and then in 1959 he moved with his family north to the farm south of Mora. He farmed with his dad and brothers until he was drafted into the Army in 1963 serving stateside. After his honorable discharge he returned home to help on the farm.
In 1967 he was united in marriage to Linda Schwartz. Larry and Linda lived on the home farm for a short time and then bought the Matt Mattson farm. Larry would go on to build homes on each of the farms they resided at. While building their second home Larry fell and fractured his neck and was very fortunate to be able to walk out of the hospital. With a lot of luck and help from family and friends, they completed house number 2. The final house he built was across the road in the woods and that is when he retired from farming.
Besides farming and carpentry, Larry was also proficient in block laying and concrete finishing. He was an all-around handy man who was very meticulous in his work. Upon retiring he took up quilting, rug making and wood working. He was very talented with all these endeavors.
Larry is survived by his brother James (Gladys) of Mora, sisters Carla Trytten of Gregory SD and Linda (Alan) Skramstad of Mora, sister-law Rose Nelson, many nieces and nephews and god-daughter Janet Wilkinson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Linda, parents, brothers Howard and Lloyd and Lloyd’s wife Ruth; and brother-in-law Carlyle Trytten.
