LORENE SHERMAN Obituary

Lorene May Sherman, of Mora, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the St. Clare Living Community in Mora. She was 97 years old.

Lorene was born on January 30, 1928, in Brook Park Township, Minnesota, to parents Roger and Alvina (Parsons) Davis.  Lorene grew up on a farm and spent most of her life living and working in rural Minnesota. Farming was not just her livelihood, but a way of life she deeply cherished. She and her husband, Max, worked together on the family farm for many years before retiring into town, where they continued to enjoy the company of friends and family.

Lorene was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mora, where she served on numerous boards and committees and contributed faithfully to church life. Her faith was the cornerstone of her days, and many of her closest friends were fellow congregants who shared her dedication to service and fellowship.

In addition to her church work, Lorene was an active supporter of 4-H. She led projects, taught members valuable skills, and assisted judges at local events. She took pride in helping young people learn and grow, leaving a lasting mark on many in the community.

Lorene and Max were well known for their love of dancing. Together, they were regulars at local dances and later took great joy in square dancing. Their shared enthusiasm and grace were admired by all who knew them.

Lorene will also be fondly remembered for her hospitality and her skill in the kitchen, especially for serving fresh vegetables from her garden, hot coffee, and beer-battered fish fries. Her home was always open, and she welcomed everyone with warmth and kindness.

Lorene’s life was a reflection of faith, family, and friendship—a life well lived and lovingly remembered.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max; great granddaughter Megan Kelling; sisters Blanche Mattsen, Virginia “Ginger” Kadlec, and infant Patricia Davis; and brothers Wilbur, Ronald, and Howard Davis.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Andrew) Kelling; grandchildren Edward (Pam) Kelling, Steve (Nichole) Kelling, Michael (Lindsay) Kelling, and Elizabeth Kelling; great-grandchildren Deven (Heather) Kelling, Hayley (Adam) Rubin, Nick (Emma) Kelling, Isac (Ally) Kelling, Zachary (Marissa) Freeman, and James Kelling; eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Hanson and Betty Lawrence; brother-in-law William (Conny) Sherman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
