Lorraine Alice Nelson, of Ogilvie, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge. She was 79 years old.
Lorraine, lovingly known as Lorri, was born on March 6, 1946, in Maddock, North Dakota to Reuben and Lydia (Stokka) Rangen. She grew up on the family farm, the third of ten siblings. She graduated high school in North Dakota, staying behind to finish while her family moved to a farm near Brainerd. She prayed about her future and was accepted into the three-year registered nursing program in Duluth. After graduation, she met Daniel Nelson, and they were married on July 19, 1969. To this union three children were born. Dan and Lorri lived in Anoka for the first few years of their marriage before moving to Ogilvie near the Nelson farm where they raised their family.
Lorri worked at the state hospital in Anoka for three years, then at the Sunshine Villa in Mora until settling into her job at the Cambridge Medical Center where, aside from a couple of years at the Mora Clinic, she remained until her retirement. She was the first triage nurse in Cambridge and enjoyed that role for many years.
Lorri’s favorite pastimes were spending time with Dan and the family and playing music together. Her music was a ministry to those around her. She played guitar and piano and taught the kids to sing in harmony. She also enjoyed bird watching, fishing, biking, walking, camping and hiking, yardwork and gardening, family reunions at the lake, cross country skiing, baking, homemaking, quilting, pets and animals. Her faith in God and spending time in God’s word were inspirational as well. She and Dan loved helping family and friends and she was youthful in playing with her beloved grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ned Rangen, and daughter Lisa Nelson Shedore.
Lorri is survived by her husband Daniel; children, Amy (Jason) Wahlstrom and Corrie (Kyle) Kropelnicki; son-in-law, Dave Shedore; grandchildren, Elsa Wahlstrom, Jeb (Joy) Wahlstrom, Natalie Wahlstrom, Anwen Wahlstrom, Karson Kropelnicki, Cadan Kropelnicki, and Kyler Kropelnicki; brothers, Rod (Val) Rangen and Kent (Sanni) Rangen; sisters, Lovonne Johnson, Marie (Larry) Rhuby, Marilyn (Kim) Sievek, Irene Rangen, Karol (Mike) Zegarac, and Kerri (Dave) Herath; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family who loved her dearly.
In lieu of other gestures, the family kindly welcomes donations of flowers for her service or memorial contributions in honor of her memory.
A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Lewis Lake Covenant Church in Ogilvie.
Visitation was held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Hamilton Funeral Homes - Akkerman Chapel in Mora and again 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
