LOUISE BROEHL Obituary

Louise G. Broehl, of Mora, MN, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at St. Clare Living Community of Mora at the age of 92.

She was born Louise Gwendolyn Strandlund on September 18, 1933, to Leo A. and Ethel M. (Billstrom) Strandlund at the home of her parents in Grass Lake Township, Kanabec County. She attended grade school in Brunswick, MN and graduated from Mora High School in 1952. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick, MN.

Louise was united in marriage to Arlin R. Broehl on October 10, 1953, at the home of her parents. To this union two sons and two daughters were born. Louise and Arlin raised their family on a 200-acre dairy farm northeast of Mora and later had beef cattle, as well as sheep and chickens. In 1967, Arlin became disabled with emphysema and Louise became Arlin’s primary caregiver as well as the family’s breadwinner. Louise first found employment at the Mora Farmers Cooperative Creamery, then went on to study bookkeeping and was employed by Gerald Holznagel Accounting as a bookkeeper for many years. Louise and Arlin continued to live on the farm until Arlin passed away on June 6, 1978. Louise sold the farm in 1981 and lived in Mora and Minneapolis, working at various bookkeeping and clerical jobs over the years, eventually retiring in Mora.

Louise loved her family, instilling in her children the values of hard work, creativity and integrity. She enjoyed tending to the animals on the farm, being a wonderful homemaker and avid seamstress. Louise was a woman of faith and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Mora for many years.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Ethel; her husband Arlin; brothers Archie, Ernest, Vernon and John; sister Jeanne; and grandsons Tony Broehl and David Broehl.

She is survived by two sons, Gary of Mora, MN, and Randy of Dundas, MN; two daughters, Dianne (Keith) Toczek of Yankton, SD, and Janice Meintsma of Minneapolis, MN; her brother, Marvin Strandlund of Minneapolis, MN; her sister-in-law Sharon Strandlund of Cambridge, MN; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Louise’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Clare Living Community of Mora, where she received compassionate care for the past six years, and to the staff of St. Croix Hospice who cared for her there, especially in her final days.

A private graveside ceremony was held on May of 2026 at the Oakwood Cemetery, Mora, MN.
