MARILYN TERHAAR Obituary

Marilyn Ann (Roering) Terhaar, of Mora, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, in St. Paul, Minnesota.  She was 81 years old.

Marilyn was born on January 25, 1943, in Melrose, MN to Peter and Eleanor (Engelmeyer) Roering. She was the 5th of 8 siblings and grew up on a family farm. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School grades 1-8 in New Munich, MN. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1961.

After high school, she worked at Melrose hospital as a nurse's aide. During this time, Marilyn met Raymond Terhaar while attending a dance with a friend at Granite City Ballroom in St. Cloud. A year later they were married on October 3, 1964, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. During their early years of marriage, they had short residencies in Little Falls, Wilmar and Sauk Rapids. In 1969, they landed in Mora, where they raised 3 children (Cheryl, Joel and Lori) and have resided ever since.

When their children were young, Marilyn started running an in-home daycare and continued this for the next 25 years. She loved her daycare families and children and kept tabs on them throughout the years, even her “little rascals.” After her daycare days, Marilyn was employed at Pamida working as a pharmacy technician.

Marilyn was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for 55 years, where she sang in the choir, volunteered for countless functions, and made lifelong friendships.

Marilyn’s hobbies included attending sporting events as well as watching them on TV, going to the casino, weaving pine needle baskets, knitting washcloths, macrame, tending to her flowers, travel, camping, walking with friends, wordle and adventures with her family and loving on her grandchildren. She and Ray spent the last 20 years wintering in Donna, TX. They were surrounded by friends from Mora and met many new friends from all over the country and Canada.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; brother Alcuin; brother-in-law Bob VanHeel; and sister-in-law Laverne Roering.

She is survived by husband Raymond, children, Cheryl Terhaar, Joel (Trish) Terhaar and Lori (Shawn) Nehring; 5 grandchildren, Mackenzie, Zach, Mara, Alyssa and Jake; siblings, Donald Roering, Luella "Lu" (Don) Schmitz, Jan VanHeel, Joni (Dick) Imdieke, Dennis (Judy) Roering, Lee (Audrey) Roering; and sister-in-law Adelle Roering; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
