Mark was born in Nyack, New York, on June 3, 1948, to John and Margaret (Schaublin) Canavan. He grew up in New City, New York, with his dad building their house together before attending college at North Carolina State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. While attending, he became a National Champion Fencer in the 1970s Men's Epee at Notre Dame. He later moved to Minnesota to attend Bemidji State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts, Industrial Arts, and Philosophy. In 1985, he joyfully welcomed his only son, Brendon John Canavan, on his birthday. Mark enjoyed many hobbies over the years, ranging from, but not limited to, drawing, painting, cooking, playing guitar, golfing, being a Boy Scout leader, gardening, cross-country skiing, hunting, reading, listening to music and the radio, and enjoying the 40 acres he built his house on. On June 30, 2017, he became a proud Grandpa to his granddaughter, Teagan Marie Canavan.
He was preceded in death by his father, John, and aunt, Dorothy.
Mark is survived by his son, Brendon (Jessalyn) Canavan, and granddaughter, Teagan of Willmar, MN.
