Marlys I. Renstrom, of Mora, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the St. Clare Living Community Rehab. She was 87 years old.
Marlys Ione; first born child of Charley and Bertha (Norby) Forshier, was born on April 8, 1936 in Kanabec County. The family lived at Warman when a sister Janet was born in August of 1941. The family then moved to Duluth where her dad worked in the shipyards and Marlys started first grade at Grant Elementary School. After WWII, they returned to the farm and the girls attended Warman School through 8th grade. Marlys attended Mora High School and graduated with the class of 1954 making many lifelong friendships. She began her working career at Sears Roebuck, Inc. filling mail orders at the Lake Street office. Then at Cargill Grain futures in Minneapolis.
She met William “Bill” Renstrom at Ann Lake Pavilion and the two were wed on September 1, 1956 at the Presbyterian Church in Mora. They resided in Minneapolis. To this union 3 sons were born; Marlys was a homemaker, mother and did lots of odd jobs until 1969 when she started in food service for Minneapolis Public Schools. She retired in 1997 when the couple bought a home and returned to Mora.
She was a member of the Kanabec History Center, Seven County Senior Federation, First Light Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary 201 and Calvary Lutheran Church.
She was preceded by parents, husband Bill, and grandson Troy.
Marlys is survived by her children, Brian (Joan), Scott (Cynthia Younkin), Todd (Anna); grandchildren, Lee Ramirez (Shae), Tara (Ryan) Theisen, Eric (Laura) Renstrom, Kari Renstrom, Travis (Lisa) Renstrom, Mitchell Renstrom (Steph), Jenna Renstrom (Tim); great grandchildren, Sergey, Ella, Logan, Roxanne, Ruby, Hailey, Cody; sister Janet Johnson; special cousin Marlene Brown; and several family members and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Croix Hospice and St. Clare‘s for their outstanding care of Marlys.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Pastor Dean Oelfke officiating.
A Memorial Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Inurnment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials are preferred to the Calvary Lutheran Church, Kanabec County History Center or Mora Legion Auxiliary 201.
