MARTHA MONSON

Martha Katherine Monson, of Henriette, Minnesota, passed away in her home on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the age of 82.

Martha was born on May 5, 1942, in Lidgerwood, North Dakota to parents Emil and Katherine (Thurmer) Wahl.  Growing up on the North Dakota prairie meant farm life in every sense of the word and in an era of few conveniences.  Martha spent time riding horses and she had many cherished memories with her horses PaL and Trixie.

Martha met Philip DeWaine Monson at her Jr./Sr. Prom and through casual conversation and a shared dance or two; the relationship began. From this chance encounter they would form a union, and married on September 15, 1960, in Yankton, South Dakota.  They shared the joy of raising ten children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Martha was devoted to her family.  Although she never obtained any formal degrees from college or university, she learned many things through trial and error, creative thinking and jumping in with her whole heart and her sleeves up.

Her employment consisted of factory jobs that allowed her to work opposing shifts to maintain the family finances.  Her working years were spent at Amoco in Mora and later for 3M in Pine City.  In her retirement, she spent her time gardening and crocheting.  She will be dearly missed.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Philip, son Jeremy “Chester”, grandson Lee William Aronson, brothers Reinhard and Maynard Wahl.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Aronson, Barbara (Ron) Sigurdsen, Mark (Rita) Monson, Melody Schleiss, Vernon (Julie) Monson, Julie (David) Wright, Ruth (Ricke) Mattison, Kathy Fiorentino, and Rebecca (Timothy) Barnes; sister-in-law Alice Mathiason; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and  great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the Open Arms Church of God in Grasston.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the Hamilton Funeral Homes - Akkerman Chapel in Mora and again 1 hour prior to the service on Friday, at the church.

Interment will be in the Henriette Cemetery.
