Mary Ellen Erickson, of Mora, revered as a pillar of strength and bravery, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024 in Mora. She was 69 years old. Though quiet in nature, Mary was known for her warmth, generosity and loving spirit she brought into the world.
Mary was born on July 5, 1955 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to parents William and Beverly (Tice) VanderEyk. She grew up in St. Cloud and graduated from Apollo High School, where she met her future husband, Ronald Erickson. They were married on July 30, 1977 and moved to Mora, MN where they raised their family together.
Mary enjoyed working in customer service, including ten years as a store manager at Brunswick Market and more recently at Coborns of Mora, where she worked in the floral department for twenty years.
Outside of work, Mary was an active participant of the Catholic Church community where she served as both a CCD teacher and Sunday School teacher for over twenty years. The rest of her spare time was spent doing things she loved, including being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary was an avid crafter, and in typical fashion, enjoyed making gifts for loved ones more than herself. Mary also had many beloved pets over the years and cared for cats, dogs, rabbits and was a self-proclaimed crazy chicken lady.
Mary’s loss is deeply felt by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Her memory will continue to live on and inspire strength, kindness and generosity in those whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Ronald; children, Nathan Erickson, Casey (Crystal) Erickson, and Jessica (Justin) Kent; grandchildren, Lily, Lila, Edward, and Ellie Erickson; siblings, Eyk VanderEyk, Debbie VanderEyk, Tom VanderEyk, Kathy Keller, Michael VanderEyk and Julie Theisen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Hamilton Funeral Homes - Akkerman Chapel in Mora. Rita Clasemann will officiate.
