Obituary

Mary AnnaMarie Lindquist, of Mora, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023 surrounded by loved ones at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis after a brave fight with cancer. She was 76 years old.

Mary was born on March 8, 1947 in Sprang-Capelle, Netherlands to parents Joe and Gertruda (Benards) VanderVelden.  At the age of 10, the family boarded a ship from Holland to the United States. The family moved around Minnesota before eventually settling in the Mora area.

Mary was united in marriage to Larry Lindquist on April 10, 1970 in Cambridge, MN.  They made their home in Mora and were blessed with two children, Angie and Brad.  Mary worked at Sheller-Globe in Mora for a number of years before becoming a kindergarten teacher’s aide at the Mora Elementary school.

Mary was an incredible baker and famous for her pumpkin bars, cookies, and bread which she shared with everyone.  Always on the go, Mary loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, painting everything in her sight, and taking care of her beloved animals.  She enjoyed traveling and took several trips to visit family in Holland, Spain, and Florida.  Her favorite trip was to Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley, her favorite musician.

She was a beloved member of the community and made many connections and friendships throughout her life. Mary will be remembered for her generous heart and playful personality. Her legacy will live on through her family who she cherished so deeply.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents: siblings, Josh VanderVelden and Joby (Roger) Althoff; brothers-in-law, Randy Lindquist, David Lindquist, and Lyle Peterson.
