Nola Jean (Seavey) Bowman peacefully departed this world on May 26, 2025, at the remarkable age of 96.
She was born at Glenwood Maternity Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 14, 1929, to Muriel Ophelia Seavey. Raymond Matson lovingly raised her as his own daughter.
Nola was the devoted mother of eight children, Roland, Margaret, David, Robert, Diane, Dawn, Doug, and Durand. Together with her husband David Bowman, she raised her family in Crystal and Blaine, Minnesota.
A woman of many talents, Nola was a skilled gardener who preserved everything she harvested, providing her family with organic food long before it became fashionable. In her younger years, she worked at the family bakery in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, and later served as a school bus driver for the Anoka School District. Her capabilities extended to seamstressing, and she was renowned as an amazing cook and gracious hostess.
Drawing from cherished childhood memories of holiday dinners at the Seavey farm, Nola continued this beloved tradition by hosting every holiday celebration and countless gatherings at the family home in Blaine. An avid birder and passionate golfer, she enjoyed many rounds with dear friends at Carefree Country Club in Winter Haven, Florida, and Big Lake, Minnesota. Perhaps most meaningfully, Nola found deep fulfillment through her lifetime of community service with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Special Olympics.
Nola is survived by her children: Roland, Robert, Diane, Dawn, Doug, and Durand; more than 20 grandchildren; and many cherished great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Hamilton Funeral Homes – Rock Chapel in Braham, with Rev. Dr. Vicki VanderVegt officiating.
