Norris “Snort” Paul Hushagen was born on April 20, 1941 to Anton and Nora (Odegaard) Hushagen. He was delivered on the family farm in Erskine, MN by his dad and was the youngest of 15 children. He lived on the farm and attended school in Gonvick, MN through high school.
After school, he worked pipelining in northern MN and in the oil fields of Oklahoma and Texas. There he met and married his first wife, Donna, and they had a son, Martin Dale. They divorced and he entered the army in August of 1966. He completed 3 years of service, including 1 year in Vietnam and 1 year in Panama, as a high security cryptographer. After the service, he came back to MN and began working as a technical specialist for Xerox Corporation, where he worked until retirement at age 54.
Norris met Cheryl (Restad) Hushagen in Minneapolis in June of 1970 and they were married on June 28, 1975 in Pelican Rapids, MN. They welcomed 2 children, Michael and Laurie, in 1976 and 1979. He also attended flight school and earned his private pilot’s license. The family moved to Rush Point, MN in December of 1979, where they built the home he lived in for the rest of his life. He attended and was involved in activities at Calvary Lutheran of Rush Point.
Snort and Cheryl loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time fishing, hunting, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and traveling. They enjoyed many horseback trips with family and close friends, fishing at Pine Lake and family vacations every year.
Snort passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and children on March 25, 2024. He was 82 years old. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and uncle to many and will be dearly missed.
Norris was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Nora (Odegaard) Hushagen; siblings, Raymond, Orville, Lester, Arvid, Berton, Norma Linstroth, Orpha Iseminger, Inez Hushagen, and Verna Ellsworth; brother-in-law Donald Bruce Restad.
