ROBERT HANSEN Obituary

Robert “Bob” Hansen of North Branch passed away in his home on July 3, 2026, at the age of 68.

Bob was born May 19, 1958, to Richard Nicholas & Joyce LaVerle (Dickey) Hansen in Roseville, MI. He was the 6th of 7 Children. At about 5 years old his family relocated to a farm in Day, MN. Bob went to school in Braham, MN and graduated from Westview High School in 1976, and was very proud of graduating in the bicentennial year. Growing up on a farm he loved being around his horses. He would hand-milk the cows and neighbor cows. That experience sparked his everlasting love of nature.

After graduating he worked odd jobs, including hardwood floor refinishing, breaking horses with his uncle Ronnie, and some Animal Husbandry. In 1984 he started his job at North Central Public Service as an HVAC trainee. He went on to eventually become an HVAC Master Certified Technician.

He believed strongly in living off the land and the bartering system. He never wanted to live on a paved road. He loved cribbage and Kings Corner. He instilled an appreciation for and love of math in all of his children. He loved his family more than just about anything in the world and wanted to surround himself with them as often as possible. He was always happy to help friends and family. Loved woodworking and being outside working with his sons, nephews, and eventually his grandchildren. His favorite thing to do was working in his garden when his little helpers were around. He loved being able to share food from his garden with anyone who wanted it.

He married Mary Jane Mayer April 2, 1982. They had 3 children, Nicholas Leo Hansen (1983), Derrick James Hansen (1984) and Bonnie Jo Hansen (1985). He built a house in Oak Grove, MN in 1989 where he lived until 2005 after becoming an empty-nester.

Bob was a big fan of the show Big Valley, and he originally wanted to have as many kids as they had in the show (5!) and wanted all of his kids to be named after the kids in Big Valley. Unfortunately, Mary didn’t like that and so they eventually compromised. Nick was indeed named after Big Valley, but it was approved because of the family connection. Derrick was a compromise from Dirk on Big Valley. Bonnie ended up being named after dear family and her middle name was after the nurse that delivered all 3 of his children. Bob and Mary eventually divorced in December 1995, but remained co-parents, close friends, and joyous co-grandparents after welcoming their first grandchild in 2009.

Bob Hansen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Siegfried and Cecelia Hansen, Fred and Florence Dickey; parents, Richard and Joyce Hansen; siblings, Lennis “Lenny”, Richard “Ricky”, Kathleen “Kathy” and Carol Hansen; nephew Michael Gebert.

Bob is survived by his children, Nicholas Hansen and wife Sarah, Derrick Hansen and wife Sarah, and Bonnie Hansen and partner Daniel; grandchildren, Ruby “AJ” Geving, William “Billy” Joseph Geving, Rowan Jeanine Hansen, Mackinley “Mack” Paul Hansen, Logan Robert Hansen, siblings, Laurie Gebert and husband Larry, and Luanne Hansen; many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
