RODNEY HINTZ Obituary

Rodney W. Hintz passed away peacefully, at the age of 95, around 7pm on Saturday January 13 2024.

He was preceded by his wife Lois and survived by his three daughters Sandra, Renee and Ruth; his son Rodney B. Hintz "Sonny"; his five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Rodney was an only child born on January 20, 1928 to Walter and Ruth (Johnson) Hintz.  Rodney grew up on their family farm in Mora, Minnesota; initially attended school in Quamba and then went on to Mora schools.  Rodney loved baseball and played baseball regularly, with his buddies, in Quamba Mn.

Without really knowing Rodney, you would not notice the immensely strong drive that he exhibited while living with the Perthes disease that he had developed as a child.  This disease eventually completely ate away the hip bone joint in one leg and late in life, when he finally had a hip joint operation, the surgeons informed him that due to the hip bone deterioration, the leg bone was only held in place by muscle.  Yet he never let this impact his ability to provide for his family and never changed his positive demeanor.

After high school, Rodney was drafted into the Army where he was attached to the Army signal corps, at the Presidio, in San Francisco, Ca.  During this period, he spent available free time with an old friend Fritz who owned a butcher shop in Concord Ca.    Fritz was also from Minnesota and had actually worked, at times, on Rodney’s father’s farm.  To hear it from Rodney he considered his time in the Army as a vacation when compared to his daily farming life.  He had actually been accused of getting soft while in the Army.

While still in the Army, on August 4, 1951, Rodney married Lois Allman, also an only child, where it just so happens that Rodney had grown up within a couple of miles of Lois and had, at times, worked for Lois’ father on their Farm.   When Rodney was discharged from the Army they ended up residing on Lois’ family farm.  Rodney and Lois eventually purchased both Lois’ family farm and Rodney’s family farm where they proceeded to grow crops and raise cattle while raising their four children.

Rodney was a very special person and loved by all he met because of his cheerful open demeanor, ready smile, and (to the girls) his gorgeous blue eyes.
