Roger Keith Boster of Mora, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Welia Health in Mora, MN. He was 88 years old.
Roger was born on November 19, 1935, in Slayton, Minnesota to parents Lyle Sr. and Nora (Doherty) Boster. In 1941, the family moved to a farm north of Mora where Roger attended both the Willard and Lincoln country schools through the 8th grade. He graduated from Mora High School in 1954. He took a job as a deck hand on the Ore boats in the Great Lakes until 1955, when he was drafted into the United States Army. He received Medic training and served in Germany towards the end of the Korean War. After his discharge, Roger returned to his job on the Ore boats for another 2 years, before coming home to work with his father on the family farm. He later took over the full operation and at its peak, was milking 187 dairy cows, 3 times a day as well as farming corn and soybean crops. He put his heart and soul into the farmland and the care of his animals. He received many MN DHIA awards and was Dairyman of the Year.
In the late 80’s, Roger met Annette “Toni” Valenzuela at the Sportsman Café in Mora and he hired her to milk cows. Together they built a life together on the farm they both so loved. After they sold the dairy cows in the early 2010’s, Roger continued to raise beef cattle and his beloved Boer goats. His nephew Mike later took over the crop farming, but Roger continued his deep love for the farm until his final day. He will be dearly missed by family, friends, and the animals he leaves behind.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Del, Marlyn, and LeRoy; brother-in-law Mel Persson, sister-in-law Lynda Boster.
Roger is survived by his partner Toni Valenzuela; brothers Gary and Jim (Shirley) Boster; sister Lou Persson; Toni's children, Michael (Chrissy) Valenzuela and Erin Valenzuela; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
