SONJA SONNENBERG

Sonja Eva Sonnenberg, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away October 4, 2022 at Welia Health in Mora. She was 69 years old. 

Sonja was born on June 30, 1953 in Schweinfurt, Germany to Gerda and Joseph Ranke. She moved to the United States with her parents when she was 4 months old and spent most of her childhood and upbringing in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota with her 2 younger sisters, JoAnn and Linda. Sonja graduated from Vicksburg High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. After high school, she attended Minneapolis Business College and obtained a Private Secretarial Finishing degree. She was a hard worker and worked at several different companies through the years. Sonja most enjoyed working with her husband, Sam Nedland, managing their tile installation business called S&S Installation. Sonja was blessed to have 2 children, Natalie and Shawn, who brought great joy to her life. On July 17, 1999, Sonja married the love of her life, Sam Nedland. They enjoyed taking spontaneous short day road trips together and just simply spending time with each other holding hands. Sonja enjoyed reading, crafting, crocheting, gardening, camping, and fishing. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, whom she was very proud of. Sonja will be truly missed by all who knew her. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerda and Joseph Ranke, and her step-son, Jeff Nedland. Sonja is survived by her husband, Sam Nedland, her beloved puppy, Daisy; children, Natalie (Mark) Volz and Shawn Sonnenberg; step-children, Heidi (Gary) Spetzman, Rachael Nedland, and Brock (Melinda) Nedland; grandchildren, Riley Volz, TeAnna Deuel, Kelsie Mueller, Parker Nedland, Carson Nedland, Griffin Nedland, Lewis Nedland, and Henry Nedland; sisters JoAnn (Paul) Monnens and Linda (Denny) Hogan; as well as many other relatives and friends.
A private Celebration of Life, with family,  to honor Sonja, will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022.
