SYLVIA SLEITER

Sylvia Dorothy Sleiter, of Mora, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the St. Clare Living Community in Mora.  She was 102 years, 11 months, and 23 days old.

Sylvia was born on September 8, 1921, on a farm in Sioux County, Iowa to parents Rufus and Anna (Berkenpas) DeZeeuw.  The 2nd oldest of 14 children, she grew up on farm near Holland, Minnesota helping to care for her younger siblings.

Sylvia was united in marriage to Merle Clifford Sleiter on October 10, 1940. They farmed and raised their five children in Pipestone, Holland, and Tyler until moving to Mora in 1966.   Sylvia worked at the Sportsman Café in Mora for many years. 

Sylvia always liked to be busy and moving.  She enjoyed walking, tending to her gardens, fishing, and volunteering at the One More Time thrift store.   She also enjoyed playing Bingo and doing word-finds and crosswords.  Always faithful, Sylvia was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mora.  She will be dearly missed.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merle; son Marlin (Marlis);great granddaughter Piper Dillon, and 11 siblings.

She is survived her children, Dale (Patricia) Sleiter, Dennis (Monica) Sleiter, David Sleiter, and Janet Holler; grandchildren, Kelly (Randy) Hansen, Mark (Cathryn) Sleiter, Rebecca (Mike) Kennedy, Jodi Sleiter, Ryan (Liberty) Sleiter, Nicole (Mike) Perry, Nathan (Tisha) Sleiter and Mathew (Tanya) Sleiter; great grandchildren Neal (Tiffany) Hansen, Betsy (Jace) Harwood, Cody, Cal (Cassie), Carson, and Yasha Sleiter, Aidan, Claire and Sean Kennedy, Zachery Sleiter, Campbell and Denica Sleiter, Markus Sleiter, Eowyn and Enoch Dillon, Lukus, Syver, and Viola Sleiter, Adam Sleiter, and Christopher Perry; great-great grandchildren, Levi, Brynnley, Beau, Maverick, Raevyn; sisters, Rose Beck and Ardis (Roger) Nielsen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the First Presbyterian church in Mora with the Rev. Dr. Gus Schill officiating. 

Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. 

A luncheon will follow the service at church.

Interment will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone.

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of Mora, The St. Clare Living Community, or St. Croix Hospice.
