Terrance “Terry” Stolquist, age 77, of Mora, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Regency Hospital in Golden Valley.
Terry was born on October 6, 1947, in Duluth, Minnesota to parents Albert and Emogene (Shaw) Stolqluist. He was united in marriage to Judy Hendershot on October 18, 1968, and they were later blessed with their only child, Barton.
Terry’s true passion was being a musician that started at a young age, and he loved to entertain people by playing his drums. He played drums in a band with his brother-in-law Florian Chmielewski Sr. for the first eight years of their marriage. He then worked for the City of Mora for 25 years until his retirement but rarely missed a weekend gig. Over the years he played at numerous venues with various country and old-time bands including the Country Four, Joey the Concertina King, Sundance with Duane and Mary Johnson, Nord Country, local county fairs, and as a stage drummer for Midwest Country Theater in Sandstone along with the East Central Minnesota Opry shows. Terry started his music career playing with Florian Sr. and ended it with Florian Jr. when they played together at the Cloquet VFW for four months before Terry’s surgery.
At every show Terry promised a dance with Judy. He set his sticks down and the band continued while they were on the dance floor. Before returning to the stage for the rest of the evening he left Judy with a kiss. They savored this special moment and recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with a gathering at the VFW.
In his life Terry enjoyed many things especially the annual weeklong family fishing trips to the Cut Foot Sioux chain of lakes, fishing on the St. Louis River, hunting, and always music. In his younger years, Terry was an avid bowler and golfer. Terry and Judy’s yearly vacation was either Las Vegas or Reno to meet his sister and brother-in-law Jeri and Garry and niece Julie. For other trips, He and Judy would pack up the car and just start driving West for two weeks, never knowing how far or where they would end up.
Terry will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Emogene (Shaw) Stolquist; parents-in-law Ronald (Millie) Hendershot; brother Dan; sisters, Pat (Florian Sr) Chmielewski, Mary Lou Harrison, and Birdie Bennett; sister-in-law, Connie Caswell; brother-in-law Tyrone Hendershot; nieces and nephews, Cindy Caswell, Jeff and Mark Chmielewski.
