Thomas Walfred Heuer, of Mora, passed away Friday, March 28, 2025, at GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge. He was 88 years old.
Tom was born on October 12, 1936, in Braham, Minnesota to parents Walter and Helen (Holm) Heuer. He grew up in Mora, graduating from Mora High School in 1954. He went on to study business at the University of Minnesota. In 1956, while still in college, Tom started working full time at Arcon Construction in Mora. He began his 33-year career in the field but gradually moved into a timekeeper and bookkeeping role with the company. Tom later attended Minneapolis Business College, where he earned his accounting degree. From August 3, 1959, until August 2, 1965, Tom served in the Minnesota National Guard. Tom also had a love of flying and with his pilot’s license he became one of Arcon’s pilots, flying job supervisors back and forth to jobsites across the country. In 1989, after a change of ownership within the company, Tom retired from Arcon. Never one to sit idle, Tom took a job driving bus for Greyhound. His main route was from Chicago, IL to Billings, MT as well as other shorter routes around Minnesota. He drove for 12 years, before retiring at 65. In retirement, he continued to work for another 9 years for Dean Johnson as a bookkeeper and pilot.
Tom’s faith was very important to him, and he was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mora; serving as an Elder, Trustee, and Financial Secretary. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and golfing. Tom served on the Vasaloppet Board for 13 years and enjoyed helping to maintain the ski trails around Mora. He even skied the race 2 times in his younger years. He will be dearly missed.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother Allen J. Alderman.
He is survived by nieces and nephews and their families, Greg (Kaye), Karen (Bill), Brent, and Jay (Penny); several cousins, and many friends.
