V. DONNA OSTROM Obituary

V. Donna Ostrom, of Mora, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022 at the Elim Home of Milaca.  She was 95 years old.

Virginia Donna Lund, lovingly known as Donna, was born on July 29, 1927 to parents Harold and Edith (Parker) Lund in St Paul, Minnesota. When she was very young, the family moved to a farm west of Kerrick, MN where she attended a one-room country school.  When she was eight, her father died, and the family moved into the town of Kerrick where she completed grade school.  Donna attended and graduated from Bruno High school where she was active in girls’ basketball, softball, cheerleading, music as well as drama and all the class plays.  After high school, she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for a few years.  During that time, she worked at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND.

In 1948 Donna was united in marriage to Edwin Guy Lynch and they were blessed with three children, Mark, Pamela, and Dawn.  The family moved to the Kerrick and Askov area in 1951 where Donna worked at the Sandstone Clinic.  In 1970 they moved to Mora where she worked at the Mora Chevrolet dealership for a few years before being appointed as the Deputy Registrar for Kanabec County in 1977.

Donna was united in marriage to R. Elwood Ostrom in 1983.  They lived in the home Elwood built but spent several weeks in Florida during the winter months for a few years.  Donna and Elwood enjoyed travel and took many trips including Jamaica, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and Europe.

When Donna was ten years old, she accepted the Lord as her Savior and has been faithful throughout her life.  She was active in all the church communities she attended over the years and most recently at Quamba Baptist church.  She taught Sunday school and youth groups, music activities, and helped with the ladies aid.  Faith in God and love for family were a priority in her life.

Donna was the ultimate hostess and her first words to anyone were always, “Have you eaten, can I fix you something” regardless of the time of day.  She was a fantastic cook and baker and would never let anyone leave hungry.  She planted a large garden which she harvested and canned for cooking during the winter months.  She also enjoyed tending to her flowers and feeding and watching the birds. Her greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elwood, sister Yvonne, and brothers Richard and Roland.

She is survived by her children, Mark (LuAnn) Lynch, Pamela Lynch, and Dawn Halonie (Kevin Gaganon); step-daughter-in-law Sharon (Rich) Sabacky; grandchildren, Shane, Halley “Jeremiah” (Jamie), Shannah (Mike), Terence (Aubry), and Kasey; step-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joel (Michelle), Kara (Justin), Krista (Adam), Angela (Erik), and Jennifer (Dan); many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
